Belfast Area Childrens Center

This 5,000 square foot child care facility is designed to appeal to its users through the integration of energy efficiency, natural lighting, varied play spaces. The long curving south wall follows the arc of the sun and allows winter sun to penetrate all of the classrooms. The north side of the building contains the entrance and office space. Gathering and dining as well as inclement weather active play take place in the central hall. Daylight is brought into the hall via south facing clerestory windows. The tower contains lookouts for the older children.

This building was funded, in part, through the Community Block Grant program and built utilizing both classes from the local vocational school and contracted labor.
