Millbrook Residence

This 2500 square foot, single family dwelling was designed to celebrate the sun and be heated primarily by solar energy. The sun warms water that is stored in containers in the attic. Warm attic air is blown into a crawl space below the house where it is mixed with fresh air and allowed to flow back into the living space. There is also solar collection for hot water and a back up boiler. The system is designed to keep the house at temperature for up to five sunless days. The house shape is informed by the ledge outcroppings on the site. The most obvious accommodation to the solar aspects of this house are the large south facing clerestory windows.
